4Rs

Before reading this diary it is very important to define some terms about sustainibility, known also as the 4Rs - reuse, renew, reduce and recycle. Every one of them is a bit different and specific in its own way.  Renewing is repairing old things instead of buying new ones. For example fixing the old electronics, sewing up or fixing the clothing. Reusing represents repeated use of components or elements. It's about choosing to reuse the materials rather then throwing them away. We made small flowers from old clothing but with a little bit of imagination and initiative I am sure you could do anything you want. Reducing means decreasing the materials we are using on daily basis. Reducing use of water, car transportation, usage of electricity, leftovers, packages, plastic materials or clothing.  Many people don't know the difference between recycling and separating. Separating stands for dividing waste into plastic, paper and glass. Recycling is making things from materials that...

Organic ferilizer from food waste

Turning food waste into organic fertilizer creates economic and enviromental benefits, which can improve soil health, help reduce erosion and improve water quality.  By composting your unwanted food waste, you are energizing the soil for future plant growth. Organic fertilizer is the best food for the soil, it is a good source of nutrients and mironutrients for the plants which are essential for them to grow.  Even when all actions have been taken to use your wasted food, certain inedible parts will still remain and can be turned into compost to feed and nourish the soil. Like yard waste, food waste scraps can also be composted. What is compost? Compost is created by combining organic waste such as wasted food, yard trimmings and manures, in the right ratios into piles, rows or vessels. You can add bulking agents such as wood chips which will accelerate the brekdown of organic materials. Mature compost is created using high temperatures to destroy pathogens and weed seeds that...

Healthy habits and lifestyle

Try to look at your day. Are you happy with the habits and routines that you have? Healthy habits are always about finding the balance and improving the routine everyday.  DIET When it comes to health, one of the most essential parts is a good and balanced diet. When you pursue that, besides making you feel good, it does have plenty of advantages. It helps with digestion, supports muscles, strenghtens bones, boosts your immune system, lowers the risks of various diseases such as diabetes, cancer or heart disease. A healthy diet should include enough carbs, protein, fat, fibre, vitamins and minerals. We should emphasize and seek fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, meat or alternatives like tofu or other legume products, eggs, nuts and seeds. Really important are portions/amount of the food we eat and also the time when we eat it, so we should definitely be careful about that and keep everything balanced.  EXERCISE Besides a good diet, a really important part of pursuing a h...

OUR SMALL COMMUNITY WORK

While speaking about volounteering we agreed that it would be nice and valuable to do some work in local environment in order to make it nicer. While seeking for needs we found out a story about local wells. There are three wells that local people were using for drinkable water before pluming arrived. After that for some period of time none was taking care about it. A year ago, NGO Pozitiva Samobor started a journey to give those wells former glory. Therefore we decided to put some effort in that story. We took initiative with clear idea of making it cleaner and easier approchable. After collecting appropriate tools we left towards wells. As soon as we arrived a pile of trash was found near by. Half an hour later there was no more :)  Also we cleaned water path so water from spring can float and be nicer to fetch some fantastic natural water. Also surrounding was cleaned from leafs and big stones.  We also cleaned and widened path towards wells, so local citizens can approach ...

Witch are the benefits of a personal garden?

Gardening, in itself, can produce the most  healthiest, least processed foods to put in your body wich creates healthy habits that leads us to a healthy lifestyle.  Getting your hands dirty and being in touch with beautiful, living plants can promote positivity for the mind, body, and soul. However, that’s just scratching the surface of the many benefits of creating and maintaining a garden. Think about it, you’re bringing things to life by nourishing, watering and putting in the effort to get your plants flourishing. But how can gardening improve our health, too? Most people enjoy being outdoors and digging into the soil, creating and watching plants grow. People with disabilities, people who are unwell, older people and children can find it especially rewarding to spend time in the garden tending plants and growing their own food. Enjoyment – from the physical activity Exercise – improves your endurance, strength, mobility and flexibility, and mental health Relaxation – help...

Samobor

Samobor is a city located in Croatia near Zagreb, part of our project agenda was to visit the city and learn things about it. We met in the moring and grabbed some snacks and also each of us had an orange that we were supposed to trade with someone for information about the town. We got to the centre through the wood shortcuts and there we started gathering knowledge while drinking coffe and enyoing the sunny day. The locals were friendly to share information so that we could complete our tasks to answer the questions given to us. Samobor has a lot of hidden gems like its famous dessert Crame Šnita and Razom the beer brewery. In the center of Samobor square is the Tomislovan Trg filled with beauful caffe bars. The name of Samobor river is Grabna. People of Samobor gather on Saturday on a bazzar that is called Samište. One of the more interesting people born in Samobor in Ferdo Livadič who was a croatian composer that contributed to cultral renewal. The battle of Samobor happened in 1st...

Volunteering and what we can gain from it

Volunteering is a certain activity or work done for free by a person or a group. People can volunteer in various fields. We were brainstorming and came up with many areas of volunteering.  It can be done in NGOs /non governmental organization/, environmental organizations, health care centers, rescue centres, community centres, orphanages, festivals, events, etc. Most common activities can be cleaning the nature, building or renovating public places, harvesting crops, teaching, taking care of the disabled, old or sick, running a bio farm, etc. We also can be volunteering inside in offices to help small businesses or non-profit organizations, organizing summer camps for kids, helping in red cross, public libraries, organizing clothes or book swaps, helping in animal shelters or helping with some events for example concerts or charity gatherings. But why do people volunteer if they do not get any reward for it? The truth is we can gain so much more than money in our life. In offices ...

Introduction

What is nature? Does this word mean anything to you? Nature has always provided us with everything we can imagine. Food, water, fresh air, etc. And what do we really do for nature? The absence of a deep emotional connection between humans and the natural world is the root of the environmental crisis. We, us humans have nothing less and nothijg worse than purposefully destroying it. Can wr close our eyes for a moment and imagine what the world will look like if we continue this behaviour? Sooner or later we will have to pay for our actions. We finally need to be aware of the consequences. Start thinking in a broader way, to live more sustainable. This is the reason why our Erasmus+ project ,,LLLS'' ( Leran, Live, Love, Sustainable!) was born. 17 people from 4 countries,( Croatia, Romania, Macedonia and Slovakia) gathered together in Samobor, Croatia to pose some problems regarding these issues we are facing, and to search for ways of living better and more sustai...

Entry level nutrition!

One of the most important things in our lives, that we love to underestimate, is our nutrition. Throughout the project we tapped into the basics, as it's something that anyone can simply understand and incorporate into their daily lives. Our bodies are complex biological machines and they need a plethora of various different types of minerals and molecules alike.  For an individual to have a sustainable and nutritious diet, they need to integrate lots of vitamins, minerals and a healthy amount of calories. In our personal opinion, it is always a good idea to replace the overly processed fast food with many veggies and fruits, that you could even grow in your own personal garden! Veggies like cabbage, peppers etc etc, contain lots of vitamin C B and A, that play an essential part in our metabolic processes. Fruits can serve as a great substitution to overly sugared sweets, as they are generally lower in calories, and also bring along many minerals and vitamins. It is important to ha...

Day 2 of the LLLs project

We're on day 2 of activities and I think there is more that awaits us. In the morning we've done some energizers to wake us up. We took a walk in the forest and we've played something called deer and wolves. It was a fascinant moment, for it reminded me of a joyful time in the past. We were discussing about what nature means to us and what we can do to protect it. We were also taught that we have to live more sustainable so as to make our life easier and to be against of wasting resources. Everything is good so far, especially the meals. The staff is nice and my collegues also. I can't wait to learn about gardening 😜. I was obsessed with ecology when I was little, and seeing that we will learn about how to grow your own garden I can only be eager towards it.

Biggest way to help out nature

We think that one of the biggest problems that surrounds the whole wide world is mass cutting of trees, especially without planting new ones for the sustainability for the environment. Our video and pantomi demonstrates what we think is the best way to combat this.
